Just some of today thoughts

I have been reading a recent review paper about CRISPR/Cas9. Most of the highest quality reviews came from Chinese researchers. I am admiring their work so much and predicting that Chinese researchers will lead the agriculture field for now.

Then I turned to my friend and said: "Chinese people are very quiet and stay humble for such a long time, to learn, to adjust and finally to thrive".

Just as I expected, my friend, who is white, immediately brought out how greedy Chineses are with a tone of recent evidence about miss treating other religious people, underpaid workers, cover up the covid pandemic...

Well, he has his point, but I felt like he forgot to question where Chineses came from and why they did the things they did. And are we sure we not do the same?

"..."

And honestly, when saying "Chinese", who do we mean? There are always "Chinese this", "Chinese that". Just like we said "people this", "people that". It is very unfair to blame all of the people in this world...

I personally think human are all the same. No matter how long we live, we always make the same mistake again and again. The more I learn about history, the more I realize this pattern.

I want to be naive to think that with education, altruism can be taught. But then I think about DNA. Each of us is a tiny fraction of the information that exists in this world in the form of DNA. And unfortunately, because of the limitation of the container, our physical cell/body, the information is dividing unfairly. Some might have better information than others. The source code in ourself already different, how could we behave the same, nor expecting others to do the right things if they tend to be bad at the root?

In Asian country, we believe that one's destiny already determines when one was born. Nowadays, we can change that "destiny" by changing our physical look (cosmetic surgery) or even changing the source code, DNA, if we dare (just take a couple dose of radiation or CRISPR editing the embryo?). But the more we stick our hands in this matter, the more we seem to mess it up.

And by messing it up, it could be messed up for this person, but benefit for the other person. Then you know, how could it be a mess up? Clearly, it is beneficial to someone.

But on a larger scale, we are all living on the same planet. Where could we run from the problem that we or a "faction of we" generated?

Two people sitting in a room, one fart, one doesn't. Both have to smell it. What could be fun about it?
